Recruitnik-ing | by Pat

While we're on a bit of a recruit kick, here is a sampler of updates on some of the other guys who have already picked Notre Dame.

First off, here's nd94e's excellent roundup of last week's games and how the recruits performed. One recruit not mentioned is Barry Gallup, who had 150 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns to go along with a 55 yard TD reception in a 42-12 win. There was also a nice story recently about Gallup in the Boston Globe.

Someone who isn't having as much fun his senior year is incoming wide receiver Rob Parris, who this past weekend dislocated his hip in a game against Massillon and is done for the year. Here's the writeup from the Plain Dealer.
With St. Ignatius leading, 26-21, Parris -- a senior who accepted a football scholarship from Notre Dame this past summer -- attempted to make a leaping catch across the middle near the Massillon 40-yard line. Tigers junior defensive back Brian Gamble came racing across the field and hit Parris as he was catching the ball, knocking the ball loose and forcing Parris to land awkwardly on his legs.

Play was stopped with 7:20 remaining as Parris received treatment on the field. He was put on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to Parma Community General Hospital, which is across the street from Byers Field.

Parris underwent a surgical procedure Saturday night to have his hip put back in place. After more X-rays and tests, he was released from the hospital on Sunday.
Ouch.

You know you're a big boy when you make Charlie Weis look small. The recruit in the picture is offensive lineman Bartley Webb. A few weeks ago Webb was named to the West roster of the Army All-American Bowl game. He will join Irish recruits Darrin Walls, Zach Frazer, Demetrius Jones, and James Aldridge who have also already been named to the East team roster. Here's the roster as it currently stands if you're interested.

Last year, D.J. Hord, who announced his decision at half-time, was the only Irish recruit at the game.
